One of the many arched windows at the Fortin de Ballaja now the headquarters of the Museum of the Americas in Old San Juan, Puerto Rico. This structure dates back to the 17th century and was used by the Spanish as a horse and military stable.
Inaugurated in 1992, the Museo de Las Americas in San Juan is a non-profit organization located in Norzagaray Street, San Juan. The museum is run and maintained through funds received from the Legislative Assembly and the Friends of the Museum private organization. The goal of the museum is to provide permanent and seasonal exhibitions whereby the public can gain an understanding of the history and culture of the Americas. It covers art from the pre-Columbian era to the present and a variety of artists from Latin America, the United States and Puerto Rico are showcased at the Museum.
