This is a picture of the Rotunda, Kosciola Sw. Mikolaja w Cieszynie, in the town of Cieszyn, located in Southern Poland. The first snow of winter had just fallen and many leaves from the season of fall were still on the trees, making for a beautiful photograph. Masses are occasionally performed in the Rotunda. While it is not big, attending such a mass is a very unique experience. The architecture and shape of the building allow for beautiful concerts, as the acoustics create an echo that vibrates for almost 20 seconds. The church orients, or faces east, as is very common in the architecture of Christian Churches. It also contains an apse (which can be seen to the left of the rotunda). An apse is a semicircular recess covered with a hemispherical vault or semi-dome in which the altar is usually placed.
